Phat Bikes loosely derive some of its sweeping shapes and curves from Schwinn Cruisers of the 50's but with boldly updated and modern designs, materials, and technology.

Click here to check out this Phat CycleThe patented catiliver style "X" tube configuration is an advancement over the standard diamond-frame bicycle. The conventional single top tube is eliminated by curved and extended seat stays which tie together the steering-head and down tubes. This produces a solid, unified structure that maximizes the use of triangulation.

Click here to check out this Phat CycleThis system translates into a frame which is laterally stiff yet allows a degree of "passive" travel over rough terrain or obstacles. That extra "give" makes the whole bike more stable and controllable. Dimensionally, these frames are significantly longer than most performance oriented bikes. They have an extra long wheelbase which increases stability and allows for a smoother ride.

Click here to check out this Phat CycleWhen all these design qualities are combined with heat treated 6061 Aluminum tubing, the Phat Cruiser frame becomes an extremely strong, light, and "lively" feeling bike. So light in fact, that the Phat Recreational Cruiser is arguably the lightest cruiser frame made! The Phat Recreational Cruiser is one serious dual purpose design built for aggressive riding on or off-road.

ERGONOMICS

Compared with the Phat Recreational Cruiser, the Phat Chopper is perhaps the very definition of "Extreme Cruising". With an even longer wheelbase and more laid back frame angles, the Phat Chopper puts the rider in a semi reclining or "recumbant" position. Recumbents and Semi-recumbents like the Chopper are perhaps the most ergonimically advanced bicycle designs available. Typically, these designs are more efficient and require less pedaling effort to power.

Click to check out this Phat CycleUnlike the Phat Recreational Cruiser, the Chopper frame is crafted out of Cromoly tubing. A standard aerospace material, Cromoly is reknown for its high strength to weight properties and amazing resiliency. Cromoly frames traditionally are able to absorb a degree of shock and vibration for a comfortable yet flex free ride.


HISTORY

The Silva family had been in the bike industry since the 50's which started in Bayonne, New Jersey and then to Florida. While in Florida, running several retail shops, and dealing with customers for years, he was constantly faced with what became his customers' most important concern when purchasing a bicycle…comfort.

So after all those years having to build and sell bikes from other manufacturers, he decided to pool all of his experience and make a bike line with his own frame and own concepts. The result is our "Phat Recreational Cruisers" and "Phat Chopper" designs.

While we were at it, we thought that since we had the best cruiser and chopper designs ever, what could be better than to manufacturer them in the ideal place too? So we moved to Huntington Beach, California, the cruiser capital of the world.

Phat Bikes are free rolling expressions of high-spirited individuality as well as ingenuity that defy a certain paractical, logical, mass-produced mindset. To have fun doing what you love doesn't require a multimillion R&D budget.

Being a small company means reliance on sheer skill and decades of experience in the industry. The advantage we have over bigger companies is that our bold and original ideas can be accomplished easier on a smaller production scale. In an industry dominated by high-end, performance oriented but "user-unfriendly" bicycles. Phat Cycles is committed to keeping its focus on Fun with comfort and style as their #1 goal.
